  Upon looking for a couple of Margot Robbie gifs this morning for another thread I was taken to a gif site. Margot had her own section which helped me with the Wolf of Wall Street gifs I needed. Sat right next to them were some fakes that a user had made and let me tell you this shit is scary.

  I don’t know why I expected so little to have changed since the last time I saw a celebrity fake, they never appealed me. It was always some chopped off head smiling image, lazily photoshopped onto some porn pic. But we’re not in Kansas anymore and it turns out that the deep fake tech that we’ve seen turn Bill Hader into Tom Cruise has already been utilised to take Hollywood starlets and turn them into pornstars.

  I remember a while ago when I first saw deep fake tech telling a friend that it’ll never be long before it’s adopted by the porn world citing that Scarlett Johanson was likely already deepfaked in some extreme fan boys bedroom and I wasn’t wrong. I’m not saying it’s easy to pull off this sort of thing and the women of Hollywood have lots of footage to capture their image from and in all angles, making their fakes likely the most convincing of all.

  And convincing is where this gets incredibly problematic. Plausibly deniability is a celebs friend and had I not seen this page of gifs with all celebs together, woke this morning to be told that the above image of Cara Delevigne was from a leaked tape then you would have me 100% convinced.

  How long before you can be held to a bitcoin ransom by someone who has gained access to your social media footage either by nefarious methods or simply because you publicly post, gathered enough images and created a fake then threatens to circulate it. You average Joe is going to have less of a leg to stand on then your Arianna Grande does when claiming that it is entire not real.

  I’ve always loved the saying, “A lie can travel twice around the world while the truth is still putting it’s shoes on.” There is the danger for your common man and woman, the damage will already be done and regardless of proof, when mud has time to stick then it stains.

  Dangerous times ahead I fear for the utilisation of this tech as it is just the tip of the iceberg. Take me back to 56k and when the image below of Kat Dennings was about as convincing as you were going to get.
