Boris Johnson has to go to court over Brexit bus lies

Boris Johnson has to go to court over Brexit bus lies
Remember when the Leave Campaign decided to force their agenda and state on the side of buses that the UK sends £350 million a week to the EU?! Unsurprisingly, it turned out to be gigantic lie that ultimately swayed enough of the public into thinking that Brexit was a great idea.

It was a pretty fucked-up thing to lie and now it looks like Boris Johnson will have to pay for it as a judge has today stated that he must attend a criminal case against him. Damn bloody right!

The case is being brought to court by business owner Marcus Ball who has already raised £400,000 from public donations for its legal fees. Ball is trying to prosecute an MP for lying to the public, which would be a first case of its kind in the UK. Turns out this is a common law offence that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Here’s what District Judge Margot Coleman had to say:

Quote:The allegations which have been made are unproven accusations and I do not make any findings of fact.
Having considered all the relevant factors I am satisfied that this is a proper case to issue the summons as requested for the three offences as drafted.
The charges are indictable only. This means the proposed defendant will be required to attend this court for a preliminary hearing, and the case will then be sent to the Crown Court for trial.
The charges can only be dealt with in the Crown Court

Although I’d love it if Boris ended up in the slammer, I doubt he’ll get more than a slap on the wrist.

RE: Boris Johnson has to go to court over Brexit bus lies
So why is Nigel Farage also not facing similar charges? He was leader of the UKIP party that promoted this lie and slyly slipped out of the limelight when he got what he wanted so he could avoid all the awkward interviews about his tactics and his fake facts that persuaded just enough people to support Brexit. He has been a Euro MP for 20 years for his South-east constituency so surely the law applies to him as well. Or maybe it doesn't, if the common law relating to the offence is centuries old, dating back to a time when the EU was unheard of.

So if Boris is facing the can for this, why now? it was 3 years ago that the £350m NHS statement was publicised so why is it only coming to court now? The very good reason is that the Conservatives will have no leader soon and Boris is currently the bookies favourite to win the leadership election. So this is a smear campaign before the votes are cast in the same way that Hilary Clinton got smeared on the eve of the American elections, which paved the way for Trump's success. Many Tories are desperate to avoid getting him as their leader but know that he may win on a popular vote such is the current rise of populism. So getting his name off the ballot paper is now an urgent priority for them hence the timing of the court hearing 3 years after the event.

Easy to grab a 10 sec sound bite with zero context on either side to bolster an agenda though isnt it.

What if there were cunts on both sides of the argument, but some of the cunts were more dangerous than the others?

To be fair, referendum and general politics aside he is not wrong, most people are thick. Some mind bogglingly so. But not really the approach to take when you claim to be fighting for the people against corruption of polticians. Seems very self serving and holier than thou.
