  There have been many of them, but which is the best?
  
  I would say Resident Evil 4, second best for me between 5 and 2, i think that one achieved the best balance of action with atmosphere .
  I was originally going to include a poll but i think there is more than ten (a fair few offshoots like Survivor etc and the handheld editions) so wasn't an option.

  you pretty much have it nailed down. 2 and 4 were the best of the franchise. i put 2 first because its my favorite but 4 is defiantly a close second. if your a fan of the franchise you wont be disappointed playing either but i would add that you will miss out if you dont play 1 and 3 as well.

  has to be the earlier ones. cant beat the tension etc.. it would either be 2 or 3 for me. i think theres too much run and gun in the new ones. just doesnt feel like resident evil

  For me the best resident evil game is Resident evil 3 nemesis!! He haven't a great graphics and the movements aren't great but the various enviroments are very great for an horror game and i remenber also that you have a chance for take infinite weapons for kill the boss Nemesis.

  I loved resident evil 2, it's probably my favourite of the series but I was also big fans of all the earlier PS1 RE games. I know I am in a minority, but I hated Resident Evil 5 - I don't understand how it got such a high score from everyone. All personal opinion I suppose!
  
  I wish I still had my PS1 and copy of 1, 2 & 3 now!!!
