herman li isn't actually technically that good as you would see if you watched them live, yes he can do it in a studio but he sounds bloody awful trying to play live lol

I've never actually seen them live mate, but i'd always heard that they were good live, maybe it's one of them where they are inconsistent live like sometimes they're really good and sometimes they just aren't any good at all, some bands are like that.

most of the band is ok live, but he really just cannot perform under the pressure, there were missed notes, wrong notes and simplified versions of the original all over the place when i saw them

Oh right, maybe i won't rush out and see them live then, stick to the cds for now, if they are issues he has, he should probably work on his nerves because he is clearly very talented if you listen to the cds, it's a shame he can't do it live.

It's impossible to say who's the best as there's no real way of determining it, but personally I think these guys are all awesome guitarists:
    Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
    Marty Friedmann (ex-Megadeth)
    Alex Skolnik (Testament)
    Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel)
    Karl Sanders (Nile)
    Jimi Hendrix
    Michael Schenker (Scorpions, MSG)
Christian Muenzner (Obscura, Spawn of Possession, ex-Necrophagist & Defeated Sanity) - seriously check this guy out if you havent heard of him - he's the best guitarist of this generation!

I haven`t heard most of them play to be honest, i`ve obviously heard Jimi Hendrix and Dave Mustaine but i don`t even know half the bands you mentioned there mate, not a big fan of Dave Mustaine though, the stuff of his i`ve heard while technically impressive i`ve not really liked.

Probably (in my opinion at least) the best technical guitarist is Steve Howe. There are many others, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, the list goes on. One that I listen to in my quieter moments is Gordon Giltrap. Mostly acoustic instrumental pieces, but just good listening.
