In 23 days time Blackpool's Championship campaign gets underway with a trip to Nottingham Forest.
Or at least it will do if they can get a team together. Right now they've got just 8 players. 3 defenders, 1 midfielder, 4 forwards and no goalkeeper.
At the end of last season (after a 20th place finish) the Seasiders let 27 players go, the most notable among them being Tom Ince, Matthew Gilks, Craig Cathcart. The only arrival so far is Sergei Zenjov, an Estonian winger who joined on a free from Ukrainian outfit Karpaty Lviv.
Now you could sort of understand a club not wanting to pay the wages of a full squad all summer if it was properly on its arse, but Blackpool were in the Premier League 3 years ago, an adventure worth the best part of £90m when parachute payments are taken in to account. It's not like they blew a load of cash chasing success either. Their team in the top flight was mostly made up of free transfers and since relegation they've received decent fees for the likes of Charlie Adam, DJ Campbell and David Vaughan. The tribunal deciding how much Hull should pay for Tom Ince could send as much as another £8m their way too.
There's been protests, even a billboard, but doesn't seem overly fussed. Here he is stood next to it.
That didn't go down brilliantly.
And now it looks as though manager Jose Riga has had enough as well. Just 5 weeks after being appointed he's set to resign.
Could be a real painful season...
