  Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are facing up to the prospect of Europa League football after two decades in the Champions League... and history tells us it can wreck your season
  The prospect of Thursday-Sunday football is not quite so funny now.
   
  It can be a gruelling schedule, flying to face opponents in the far reaches of Eastern Europe, at Russian outposts or lost in the middle of a desert in the Middle East, one that has cost plenty of managers in the Premier League.
  
  Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admitted they paid the price for their run to the competition's quarter-finals in 2012/13 and that season they finished a staggering 11 places lower than the one before, narrowly avoiding relegation. 
  Two seasons ago, Everton had a crack at the Europa League and finished 11th, six places worse off than the previous campaign. They have just this season qualified again for the first time since then. 
  Swansea finished 12th, three places below the season they qualified for the Europa League, when they competed in 2013/14.
  'I don't think there's anyone who would go against my opinion that this competition is not great for Premier League teams,' Pardew said during their negatively affected league season. 
  
  
  'There are too many games put into a very competitive, tough league. Talking to Premier League managers, we're all of the same opinion.'
  Statistics suggest that between 2005 and 2015, Premier League sides who have played six or more games in the Europa League finish an average of 2.5 places below their place the season before. 
  Dropping halfway down the table like Newcastle is a disaster, but for teams such as Arsenal, as Wenger has discovered this season, finer margins and even single places make a bigger difference at the top.
  
  So we see here,so much to look forward to for us Gooners :( :(
  
  Maybe it might be alright,i mean them up the road played in it and look where they finished up in the prem but then the blues over the other side didn't play any European games and look where they finished up :( I,d rather not play any and dream what might be :D

  Does it not sort of seem inevitable that Liverpool will throw it all away with a 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough?

  Its gonna be so weird with arsenal not being in the champions league, I mean who is gonna be the new English team that customarily goes out in the last 16 now... I guess they'll bounce back next year without the extra midweek game but they are in Europa so who knows

  Just proved me right that pundits talk out the back of their ass and get paid for fuck all :@ listening to Garth the Spur yesterday and he said to Martin Keown,while Spurs are going forward Arsenal are going backwards.

  With all the crap going around about Arsene it just proves it is was not him who gave us a a shit season (well I don't know how it can be called shit when we,re in the final of the most famous cup competition in the world) it was the players ,how comes they can suddenly turn it on now
  
  Those supporters who don't care if we win Saturday or not just to get ARSENE OUT aren't supporters at all they are just lowlifes :(

  No Champions League football for the first time in 21 years.  Disaster!
  
  But on the other hand, 20 years of consecutive qualification!  That's pretty impressive, right?  And now the run has ended maybe we can all take a minute and reflect on what a brilliant achievement it was.
