  Arsenal have signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for a transfer fee supposed to be around 35m. They're favourites to sign Khedira as well, the gunners don't seem to messing around this year.

  This will be Wenger's last season in charge if they don't win the League, This is a massive statement from the board and i don't see this being the end for them, Better signing than Fabregas!

  Not sure about that. Big signing, and a pretty bloody good one too but when you consider what the teams around them are spending I can't see them racing ahead, even if Bender, Khedira and Remy join as well.
  
  They'll be in better shape than last season, will be closer to the title and could even win it, but I don't think it'll be demanded.
  
  Separate point, how is he only £5m more expensive than Lallana?

  this may be true but it's complete bullshit anyway, they don't need a better manager, they need a LOT more money it's as simple as that.
  
  wenger could go to a richer club and have more chances of winning trophies too. it's not as though he has every resource possible to win (like mourinho or van gaal will) and is not winning anything cuz he's shit...
  
  and yes fabregas is a dodged bullet, that guy is damaged goods at this point unfortunately.
  
  i give sanchez 50/50 chances on being successful / flop at arsenal

  Mostly agreed Timm, not had the resources of some but he's also shot himself in the foot at times by not even spending everything that's been available to him.
  
  For me he's too close to the board. There needs to be a bit of tension, managers demanding funds, constantly looking to improve the squad. Wenger seems more like a director, and more interested in the balance sheet than winning trophies.

  and plus you really need SHITloads of money these days, a few tens of millions is not enough.
  for example, he signed ozil, and that wasn't worth 42mil. was a bit of a mistake (looks shit in world cup too..). club like chelsea can afford a 40, 50, 60 mil pound mistake easily, like torres - he doesn't work out? fuck it buy another one... but arsenal can't. that's why so much pressure now on sanchez to be a good one..

  Even if that is the case it still backs up my original point that he's too close to them. Could you imagine Mourinho doing the same? You wouldn't be able to move for sly digs in press conferences about how he's got no cash. Quite right too, put the heat back on to the board and maybe they'll do something about it.
  
  As for Ozil, give him another year. Definitely needs to step up though.

  But anyways, it's all academic now. Looks like they've realised you need to spend a few quid to compete. It'll be an interesting season.
