A Monster Calls

While i was aware of this 'A Monster Calls' it didnt sound like the kind of film i woulld rush to the cinema and see. Clocked this available for download, watched it yesterday and presonally, despite it being a very sombre, depressing film, my family and i enjoyed it for what it was. Has anyone else seen the film? What did you think? Directed by the same guy behind 'The Orphanage' and 'The Impossible', the film tells of a young boy called 'Conor' who seeks the help of a tree monster to cope with his mother's terminal illness. Great performances from most of the leads, visually striking when Liam Neeson's tree monster puts in an appearance. As i mentioned, this is by no means a light hearted, pleasant film, owing to he subject matter, it aims to depress (to the point of female family members almost being in tears). Dont let this put you off though, this is a great film with a great story and supurb perfomances, especially from young Conor. A recommended watch but may be too much for younger children (the 12 rating here is appropriate).
