TUESDAY
Arsenal v Dortmund
The Gunners have had a great start to the season, but so have Dortmund. Wenger's boys haven't been overly tested as yet, you'd imagine that'll change tonight, but maybe home advantage will see them through? Basically, I haven't got a clue how this one's going. I think i'll put my money elsewhere and just enjoy the game.
The bookies have got Arsenal as favourites at 7/5, with Dortmund 15/8. Possibly a touch generous there on the away side? They were Champions League finalists last season... Aaron Ramsey to score first at 9/1 seems plausible.
Prediction: 2-2 maybe? (11/1)
Schalke v Chelsea
Schalke have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit 5th in the Bundesliga table. Despite having home advantage I think they'll struggle against an improving Chelsea side tonight. The bookies agree, the home win is 9/4 while the Blues are priced at just 6/5. Not sure they're
that much the favourites mind, maybe 12/5 for the draw is better value?
Eden Hazard scored a couple at the weekend, Andre Schurrle is on familiar territory and both are 9/1 to score first. Might hedge my bets and stick a quid on each.
Prediction: 1-2 (15/2)
Celtic v Ajax
Not quite as scary as Barca or Milan, but Ajax could still cause Celtic problems tonight. The home side have a depleted squad and i'm struggling to see how they're 7/5 favourites. Ajax at 15/8 on the other hand, I might have a piece of that. Depending on how much you're hating on Scottish football, the away side to score 4+ goals at 17/1 might be worth a look too.
Prediction: 1-3 (20/1)
I'll keep the rest of the predictions brief...
Austria Vienna 0-2 Atletico Madrid (6/1)
Marseille 1-2 Napoli (8/1)
Milan 1-3 Barcelona (12/1)
Porto 2-0 Zenit (13/2)
Steaua 0-1 Basel (9/1)
WEDNESDAY
CSKA v Man City
As much as the sensible money should be on City, their away form is erratic at the best of times. So when it comes to away games in Europe, who knows? No chance i'm backing them to win at 3/4, put it that way. 11/4 on the draw seems fair though.
First goalscorer? Depends who starts up front, keep it safe with Yaya Toure at 8/1, or CSKA's Keisuke Honda at the same price.
Prediction: 0-2 (9/1)
Man Utd v Sociedad
For no other reason that I suspect David Moyes is too dour to let even his crises get properly interesting, a narrow United win for me. Best price on any sort of win is 8/15 (no ta) but 1-0 at 8/1 is tempting. 1-0 and Rooney to score it, 25/1. Even better.
Prediction: 1-0 (8/1)
And the rest...
Anderlecht 1-3 PSG (11/1)
Leverkusen 1-1 Shakhtar (13/2)
Bayern Munich 5-0 Plzen (10/1)
Benfica 2-1 Olympiakos (15/2)
Galatasaray 2-0 FC Copenhagen (13/2)
Real Madrid 3-1 Juventus (11/1)
ACCUMULATOR: £5 on wins for Ajax Chelsea, PSG, Man Utd and Real Madrid returns £178.45. Not too shabby, and realistic too!
