Having never really been into low budget horror films I thought I’d pop along to a werewolf night at my local cinema because they promised decent food during the intermission. Yup, it’s that easy to get me to go places. So I walk into this tiny venue with recliner sofas and sit back waiting for ‘The Snarling’ to start.
To my surprise, the actor and director were there to introduce the film and to give a Q&A afterwards which I thought was a pretty nice touch. Considering I’m into indie movies or big-budget sci-fi, I was shocked at how much I actually enjoyed this film. The writing was hysterical, but in a genuinely funny way, not the B-movie ‘so bad it’s good’ kinda way. The film is set in sleepy English village which is invaded by the cast and crew of a new zombie horror film, but the horror turns real when something starts tearing villagers, cast and crew to shreds. Check out the trailer:
Honestly, this provoked some proper belly laughs and the cast just looked like they had an awesome time making it. During the Q&A I discovered that the entire movie was made on a shoestring budget of £20,000 and was shot in just 13 days. They also had to pay someone to be a ‘duck shusher’ during takes because the ducks wouldn’t stop chirping during the scene on the lake, so the director had someone wave sheets around during filming to distract the ducks. It was pretty fascinating stuff. One of the lead actors, Ben Manning was also there to discuss his experiences and he seemed really cool up until I checked out his Instagram page. Looks like the dude thinks he’s Thor.
Stick to low budget horrors, buddy. For anyone wanting a decent horror comedy, I totally recommend
The Snarling, which is now out now on DVD.
