val kilmer i've never rated as an actor and didn't care much for his films as batman either
as far as i'm concerned the bale films are the best portrayal of batman as he should be and they are without question the closest to the comics, in that he's meant to be a very dark, scary and menacing hero. there's not meant to be any humour, light moments etc... also i think the bale films have been very close to getting across the idea that batman is just a normal man with great training and gadgets etc... pretty much all the others have had ridiculous gadgets etc.. but the bale ones are almost believable, note i said almost lol!
