You might recall Sinead O'Connor doing fairly well with with the song in 1990, but Prince actually wrote and recorded it six years earlier.

And whilst he occasionally played it live, the studio version never saw the light of day...

Perhaps not uncoincidentally, tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the little big man's untimely death. Still hurts.

words like legend and genius are often prostituted to a point were they mean almost nothing
when in truth they should be used only when talking about those that excel in there chosen field
so when i say that this man is truly a legend and a musical genius i dont say it lightly
the cover of this song was one of the biggest songs of its time and he just let someone have it
to be able to do that as he did so many times shows just how amazingly gifted he was
a well messed artist on par with lennon, bowie and presley
