Freak Show

I do try and not pigeon hole myself when it comes to types of films that i watch, i try and appreciate movies of most genres. That said, usually when i hear the words 'Indie comedy' im usually hovering over the stop button expecting a turn off being immenient. Was checking out the new releases earlier this week and spotted the new indie comedy 'Freak Show' starring, amongst others Alex Lawther and Bette Midler (if your'e not a fan of her singing not to fret, if memory serves she doesn't sing once in this). Went into watching this expecting to shut it off pretty prompt..instead not only did the fam and i watch it to it's conclusion, but it was also pretty darn enjoyable..in a kinda crowd pleaser, redemptive kinda way. The film tells of teenager Billy Bloom, clearly moulded and shaped as a result of his mothers upbringing, who despite attending an ultra conservative high school decides to run for prom queen. This is only thebasic synopsis, theres far more depth to the film than this. Solid performances from all the main leads, none more so than Alex's Billy really takingĀ centre stage. Chuck in a handfull of pretty darn decent tunes and you've got a pretty fun watch. Like other films of this ilk, its not gonna be to everyones tastes so may want to rule out checking this out at the cinema but definatley recommend checking out on home release.
