Me and the fam got around to watching 'Brawl in cell block 99' the other day. Has anyone else seen it? What did you think? Starring Vince Vaughan, once again trying to break free from his comedic film chains, the film essentially tells of Vince's drug runner character who, as the result of a deal not going as expected, winds up on the inside. Reluctant to say more regarding the plot. Suffice to say this turned out to be a half decent film. Granted it seems to take a long old while before Vinces character even steps foot in a prison but the film is handled in such a way that despite its 2 and a quarter hour run time, it never seems to drag. When the film does kick off (a few times) then as opposed to, as most directors do, bottling it and showing the violence by way of fast takes..this is most definatly not the case here. In this the diirector wants us, the audience, to experience every broken bone, individual battered to a pulp..would say it almst borders on grindhouse and its all the better for it. The level of violence may mean that this is not gonna be to everyones tastes, but personally, the fam and i enjoyed it.
