Well, it's been no secret that this was coming and now its finally here..24 Legacy. I for one was and still am on rewatch, a big fan of '24' with Keither Sutherland and co. One of my favourite shows of all time..have the box sets, bought the soundtrack album..you get the idea. The show was just phenomenal, a true classic that will stand the test of time. So, understandably when i heard that the show was being bought back WITH NO JACK BAUER AND A NEW GUY HAVING HIS TALE TOLD..MY CRITICAL HAT WAS ALMOST AMMEDIATLY APPLIED. Have gotta say though, the first episode of this was actually pretty good. 24 was only as strongas its lead character, so how does Corey Hawkins character, whatever his name is, square up? At this early stage its too early too tell for sure but, on first impressions, while he tries really, really hard and turns in a decent performance, he is not in the same league as Jack Bauer. This may improve as the season goes on..for me it was Jacks no nonsence but also copuled in with being a tortured soul that made him as compelling as he was whereas, this new guy, seems to just be in the prdicament he is in as a result of past actions and, other than that, seems to be a norml enough guy. What was bad about the opening episode PURELY COMPARING TO THE ORIGINAL'24'..the plot as it stands at the moment anbd basically all the other characters, especially those working at CTU. The original really did a justice to its previous CTU characters whereas, at this early stage, the CTU employees this time around dont seem as though they could be compelling on screen by themselves..at this stage they are not fit to shine the previous ctu operatives boots. Coupled with the new leads wife not being anywhere near as strong a female lead as say, Terri (Jacks wife in the original). Whats left but to say that, based on the first episode, whilst this is entertaining enough in itts own right..being called 24 has done it a dis-service..would have been better of being called something else and then the purists wouldnt draw so many, mostly negative, comparrisons).
