Got around to checking out 'Spiderman : Homecoming' yesterday, on the dodge naturally and have got to say, whille it did a really solid job, didnt feel it was as fantastic as a lot of people are making out...but thats not to say i didnt enjoy it. Certainly more entertaining than the Garfield offerings, Holland does a really good job, putting a fresh spin on the character. That said, for me, the humour fell kinda flat and considering that seemed to trying for a sizeable chunk of the film. The film has been accused of bearing similarities and/or paying homage to 2 legendary comedies from the 80's ' Ferris Buellers Day Off' and 'The Breakfast Club'. Can see the similaities butt where those 2 films nailed the comedy, this for me tried to emulate and didnt do a great job of it. Also, Keatons Vulture..really was hoping for a lot more from the lead villian. Granted i didnt see certain twists coming but didnt find him even remotely intimidating (which is a shame because thats something, given the right material, that Keaton can do oh so well). My fave movie spiderman villian is still William Dafoes psychotic take on the green goblin..yet to be bettered in my opinion in terms of spiderman movies. For me, as far as Marvel stable movies go, there are far stronger offerings out there but, suppose it depends as to what you are looking for from your superhero movie and theres no denying this tried something different and was pretty good to boot.
