Here it is guys, the official trailer for
Power Rangers has been released and it looks freakin BRILLIANT!
As soon as I watched the trailer though, I couldn't help noticing the eerie similarities it has to
Chronicle, a movie by Max Landis. It appears that I'm not the only one to think that; even Chronicle director Max couldn't believe how similar it was and took to twitter to voice his concerns.
It turns out Max was hired to write a draft for
Power Rangers but it wasn't what the producers were looking for so they fired him. After going through more writers and scripts, they settled on a version that is pretty much a rip off of
Chronicle. As Max writes in his Tweet "they fired the writer of
Chronicle and ended up making another
Chronicle".
If you can't remember
Chronicle, it's a movie about group of teenagers (one of them an outcast) who stumble upon an alien structure and get super powers. The trailer for
Power Rangers also showed a group of teenagers (all of them outcasts) stumbling upon an alien structure and getting super powers. Yikes! I can see why Max is so pissed off!
Have a watch of the trailers for both Chronicle and Power Ranger and judge for yourself.
I feel like a bit of a shady bitch for wanting to see Power Rangers as they've clearly stolen someone else work but I bloody loved Chronicle so I'm clearly going to love Power Rangers too. Arggh the dilemma!
